These
are some thoughts I had after using Heredis
Mac X.2 for an evening. One thing that has impressed
me is the attention to detail that BSD Concept
has put into this update. They’ve added
features that many in the Mac community have
asked for, and they’ve greatly improved
the interface of Heredis.(..)They’ve worked
really hard on this version and it shows.

Vol. 8 No. 41 –
October 13, 2003
Macintosh
owners will want to note that HEREDIS MAC
X is now available. The program previously
has been available for Windows and Macintosh
OS 9.1. Quoting from the HEREDIS Web site's
description of the OS X version:The immediate
family and all the multiple functions of the
program are accessed on one screen only: creation,
research, navigation, printing, data exchange
and multimedia functions. You will be immediately
at ease: you will know where to access instantly
every ancestor, every document, all simply
and naturally integrated into the database.
All the various documents which will be essential
to your research are at your finger-tips:
lists, files, family trees, fully illustrated
and instantly modifiable. You can choose the
navigation mode: Immediate family, Personal
data or Union data or display the Family tree
and move around by using the navigation palette:
it functions just like a compass and will
lead you directed to the person who interests
you. All functions are presented using menus
and button bars.
Also, quoting from the new program's announcement:
Innovating, stable and so far-reaching, HEREDIS
MAC X will know how to become your trustworthy
and indispensable ally for living your passion
to the full. Data entry is fluid and extremely
complete, and you may associate any type of
media with any data. A complete family tree
in 3 dimensions will allow you to visualize
your entire family from any conceivable angle.
Much more intelligent and more accessible
to the Web than so many other programs, HEREDIS
MAC X will allow you to publish your genealogy
directly on the Internet and will compile
an interactive CD-ROM so that you may share
your genealogy with those near and dear to
you. Everything you may possibly need for
handling your genealogy today, plus everything
you are expecting for tomorrow...
HEREDIS is produced in France and is a very
popular program there. The English version
has not yet become a significant player in
the English-speaking world although I think
it should. The earlier versions were all very
powerful as well as easy to use.(...)

Family
Tree Magazine - October 2002
(...)
Heredis, a popular French program now available
in an Englis-language version, excels at creating
beautiful family tree charts. (...)
Individual records can be linked to image
files (scanned photographs or a census record,
for example) or a video or sound file. You
can create a nicely formatted HTML report
to post on the web, too.
HEREDIS' attractive charts are easily the
program's best feature. The program creates
well-designed family tree wall charts in pleasing
color combinations. You can choose from several
tree formats, as well as fanc style and family
wheel ancestor charts. A nice touch in most
reports is the inclusion of each individual's
age at marriage and at death. (...)
HEREDIS lets you record where you found each
piece of family information. You can reuse
source references, and events such as births
or marriages can have multiple sources.

Chronicle - July/August 2002
(...)
The program claims to be unequalled for its
graphics and method of navigation: all immediate
family members (ancestors, descendants, spouses
and siblings) are displayed on a single screen.
In his review; Dick Eastman says that he has
never seen a program with so much information
on one screen.(...) |

Eastman's Online Genealogy Newsletter - Dec.
19, 2001
Heredis
has a very different "look and feel"
from other genealogy programs I have used.
It took a few minutes to get used to the Heredis
method, but once I became familiar with this
method of navigation and data entry, I liked
it.
...
Of all genealogy programs I have seen, I do
not recall any other that packs as much information
onto the screen as Heredis does. Even better,
the information displayed is never confusing.
The program's designers have succeeded in
displaying a lot of information in a simple
and logical manner.
...
I am very impressed with Heredis' display
of information and ease of navigation. As
I mentioned before, it is unlike any other
genealogy program I have seen. In this case,
that difference is a good thing.
...
Heredis also has almost all the features found
in the more advanced genealogy programs.
...
I expect we all will hear more about Heredis
in the coming months. This program is a serious
competitor to several well-established genealogy
programs.
